multi- camera formats

Live sports

The clip I have chosen is from a football match between Barcelona and Real Madrid
practical reasons -
The practical reasons why live sports programmes use multi-camera to film events like football matches which take place in big stadiums is to be able to get  coverage of action all the angles for example when a goal is scored they have close up you can see this at 25.34 and you can see this at 25.19 to 25.33. Another reason for using multi camera you can get the simultaneous recording coverage of action can see the fans reaction from the goal for example at 25.41. If they used one camera they wont be able to see before the goals and the audience reactions because one camera wont get both action as well so they will use multi- camera.
aesthetic reasons
The show uses multi-camera for aesthetic purposes to maintain viewers interest by having very fast cuts and close ups,  for example when a player is fouled  at 55.28 they show him in close up  to show his pained expression and  at 55.30 secs they then cut to  show the referee getting ready to show the other play a yellow card  at 55.34. This means that we get to see the whole event unfolding which keeps up interested while the football is stopped.
of the visual and mode of address
The second reason of aesthetic reason is visual style and mode of address  by having the camera moving fast to make it look very exciting to watch because the players run fast when with the ball so therefore  the camera needs to move fast to catch the best bits. the fast cuts used help to create a fast upbeat vibe to the programme.

live concerts

The practical reasons why concerts have multi- camera is to get the coverage of action so they get all the movement of the artist for example when the artist is dancing you can see this at 1.22 they get it from different angles for example when the game is moving his hand up and down at 0.29 you can see it from an high angle so you can see it from a birds eye view and also because it is in a big arena.

The second practical reason is simultaneous recording coverage of action you can see the audience jumping up and down you can see this at 1.27 so by doing this you can see and get the feel of the audience if you had one camera you wont be able get the artist reaction as well.

The aesthetic reasons of having multi- camera is to maintain viewers interest by having them following the artist movement. They also have close ups of the game at 0.42 to show the viewers that he trying to perform to you and when you see him getting happy it makes you want to keep on watching the camera moving close up of the artist makes watching it more enjoyable. Another aesthetic reason is Visual style and mode of address they make the camera move up and down when the artist is jumping and makes watching very exciting and making you feel you are at party using multi- camera makes the visual look great for example at the game concert at 1.16 you can see that the game is rapping and jumping and one of the camera is focusing on the game and the other camera is focusing the audience body language.

The practical reason to have multi- camera for a public event is to get all the coverage of action is to get the best bits and also because there is a lot going on and if you don't have multi camera you will miss out of the action and would be able to catch the detail. The Olympic games opening ceremony had lots lots going on such as people dancing you can see this at 100.03. Another practical reason to have multi- camera for public event is to constrains of studio or location environment if you had one camera in the  Olympic stadium you not have any detail you just have an establishing shot for example at 38.13 the have high angle to see different actions.

The aesthetic reason to have multi- camera for a public event is to maintaing viewer interest and to do that you must have more than one camera. Also  the most important aspect is to make sure that the viewer dose not change the channel because there is not a lot of excitement. Therefore multi camera s used to maintain this from happening For example in Olympic opening ceremony when they introduce the countries and the athletes who are taking part they show with different camera from different angles and that keeps the viewers interested and keep on watching you can see this at 200.15 you can see a close up high angle of Usin bolt face and makes you want to watch more because when someday who is well known they usually have the camera in their face.
